I need data and information on Absinthe for a university project. If you happen to have any good links, museum suggestions in France ( or Sweden ) or books on the subject, I would be very grateful. If anybody could tell me where I could acquire a bottle - please do so as well.
If you would like to offer your opinion on the use of absinthe and it's de-legalisation, please share it so that I can include it in my dossier. Has anybody tried it for example? I haven't but from what I've heard, it gives quite a nice kick and interesting hallucinations...

Heres a good place to start www.erowid.org/chemicals/absinthe/absinthe_faq.shtmlor here www.originalabsinthe.com/I am particularly fond of a Good Absinthe when I can afford it but it can be very expensive Contrary to popular opinion Absinthe has never actually been illegal here in the UK but there are limits on the thujone content ( I believe it's around 9%). Many of the more "premium" brands get round this by supplying bottles with the wormwood itself still in the bottle, so that at sale these are within the legal limit, but if kept improve with age. These are the best, but also the most expensive, and definitely the most yummy. $200 per bottle is an average price for this sort of quality I've discovered, hence I drink it much more rarely than I would like.

Nowadays, absinthe no longer gives you hallucinations. Very sad.

But it does 'kick'. I once tried several shots of a concoction called the 'B55'; Tia Maria, Baileys and Absinthe. they layered them in a shotglass with the absinthe on top, then light the absinthe with a lighter. They then gave my friend and I a straw each and made us drink it quickly through the straw. It didn't kick in for about half an hour but when it did I was just gone. Happy days...

And there was that time some random guy gave me a coffee mug full of absinthe at a friends' house party... :S

Thanks for the links! I've never tried it so I'll probably buy a bottle from Erowid ... we're currently growing a plant for the project and going to interview a specialist in France on the subject. Looks very interesting

I'd be very interested in reading the interview with the specialist. BTW Erowid do not sell, they only provide info. Timely advice about buying Absinthe here www.feeverte.net/If you intend to conduct taste tests.... well I'm happy to participate

The project is expected to be finished by the 10th of January 2006. It will be in French though. Do you speak French?

If you are interested in some modern aspect, the danish rapper L.O.C. hit it big with a song about Absinthe some years ago, and it has been very popular in Denmark since. I can send you the song, or the lyrics, if you'd like.

I've never listened to Danish Rap! *Laughs at the prospect of Danish Rap* *Laughs at the prospect of Norwegian Rap for good measure* We actually have a very well-developed rap-culture in Denmark, with many extremely talented artists, and some equally excellent producers. I find danish rap to have a much greater general skill-level than american artists, and much deeper and more thought out lyrics. But as with most music sung in other languages than english, it hasn't gone beyond our own borders. *laughs at whatever Ketoprofen listens to*

American rap doesn't qualify as music.

Neither does most pop, but that's a different story altogether...

When/where shall we try it?

Still haven't received the Danish rap, but I tried some absinthe today. I like it - will look into getting some "pure" products from Prag.
