What exactly is there to discuss? We were talking about the advances made by NK, but they hardly make up for the oppressive and feudalistic regime that has grown forth over time. NK isn't exactly a paradise these days or a socialist state, although it should be noted that the lies propagated by it's detractors are widely exaggerated most of the time.
Incidentally, I'm going to visit North Korea in March 2006 - lucky bastard I am. I've been talking about it and planning on doing it since last year already ( was meant to go there already but was cancelled due to various reasons ), and finally got around on getting the tickets and fixing my accomodation in Pyongyang!

I don't think the US will invade North Korea, it could neither afford this and would probably get a good ass-wiping - which in itself is a sign that it probably has Nukes. They're not going to use them unless the US attacks them so we should just refrain from interfering.

Deep inside my labyrinth of bookmarks, there's a photo-diary of a guy who went to North Korea. I'll try and find it...

Not exactly, visitors are required to fill out a letter explaining what we're working with and a description of our workplace. My guess would be that they are intent on filtering out undercover journalists from western media.

And why would they want to do that I wonder?!

I wish the pictures were still available for the link. It really is ridiculous to have the world's tallest hotel but the water can't pump to the top level (and barely anything above ground). Of course, that ignores the fact that NK doesn't really have a booming tourist industry (Any UK royalist will tell you that's because they don't have a monarchy )

Hehe - it sure promises for an interesting experience. I have heard though, that one of Kim Jong-Il's marsum ( words from the supreme authority, literally ) consisted in an order sent to all levels of government to provide the proper conditions for the improvement of the tourism industry. Amongst the measures that were taken were the lift on the ban of mobile phones and the use of internet. Natives are still banned from using mobile phones, unless given special authorisation, and can only use the internet in strictly surveyed state centers in the major cities.

If you want to take photos I'll bet you'll have to seek permission. China has a similar policy but I imagine it will somewhat stricter in North Korea

Never heard of it, but I'll look onto it. As far as an interesting topic of discussion is concerned, we might discuss the merits of the Juche ideology - especially given the fact that there is definitly a Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea in pretty much every major european capital. Anybody interested?

As far as I'm concerned the Juche ideology/whatnot is as hollow as Jiang Zemin's Three Represents - whatever that was supposed to be about... just nod and smile
