I grow my own and have done for some time. Some people brew their own beer, they do not sell it, I do not sell what I grow. Does my hobby make me an outcast of society? "This ain't no wholesale operation; Just a few eighths and some Playstation's my vocation" -The Streets

There was a good program last week on BBC about Marijuana consumption in the UK - one of the callers reminded me very much of SGP. Anybody got the chance to hear it?

Hi all. I'm obviously new here as this is my first post. About marijuana beeing a "gateway drug". I personaly do not believe that one can generalize about anything concerning drugs. It all depends on the individual. It is preferable for one not to touch even the slightest joint if he/she knows him/herself not to have a sufficient willpower to master his/her risk of dependence. The same goes for any drug. I personaly consider "rough" drugs horrible substances and will not go further than marijuana, but i understand why others would, for i know not if i should resist being dependant if i were to take cocaine, for example. As i said, it all depends on the individual. "nosce te ipsum"

Jako, I must say that you arguement is flimsy to say the least.
You state that there are these "gateway" drugs that lead to other things yet the state sanctions alcohol, tobacco, cafeine, etc etc
I do not condone the use of class A drugs, but the fact that they are available and in widespread use demonstrates the failings of the capitalist society we live in today.

quite the opposite in my opinion. The accesibility of drugs is a case of extreme capitalism, capitalism that goes beyond establish laws and obeys only economic laws: liberalism at its apogey.

Which is exactly what SGP said; one of the 'failings' of capitalist society is the development of capitalistic trends to their extreme.

I have personally experimented with a very wide selection of "narcotic sustances" but I am not an addict to anything but tobacco (state sanctioned and the sooner I give it up the better)
Marijuana has been a part of several cultures for thousands of years and the question to ask people who condem it as a so called "gateway" drug is, the first time you tried cannabis.. were you sober? There is the original gateway drug.

I'm curious; am I the only person here not to have tried any drug beyond alcohol?

Hey ES. I think (although I'm not certain) that I am possibly the oldest RL member of TPC and as such I have had many years to develop my vices. At the risk of sounding patronising I would advise you not to experiment with drugs in any form. Do not be concerned that you haven't tried this or that..
But if you do, be sure that you are 100% certain that it is what you want to do and do not succumb to peer pressure
Arrgh.. Me giving advice Dammit!! I'm too old for this sh*t

Yeah I'm 21 and perfectly capable of making up my own mind, thanks awfully. I already decided long before now that I didn't want a part of it; I'm not some fifteen year old who needs to hear that from someone older - and even when I was fifteen I wasn't so weak minded as to listen
