I never said Greed didn't control the world; there is a huge difference between arguing that the most powerful men and women in the world are greedy and arguing that greed is fundamentally and irrevocably part of human nature. I thought we'd pretty much covered this human nature bollocks when talking about the nuclear family.

Whoa whoa whoa, I never said that greed was an "irrevocable part of human nature." If I believed that, I'd be yakking it up with Ayn Raand lovers in Galt's Gulch. However, at the moment, it's pretty much what controls society. Well, in America it sure is. I'm waiting for the right time to take a trip to Europe and judge for myself whether the same is true there.
I'm glad we see eye-to-eye on this one. I never dreamed that I would have to reveal the inner workings of the capitalist mentality to a Trotskyist.

Maybe that came out wrong. I didn't mean to sound condescending. And if you want to talk about condescending..well..maybe look at some of the things you've been saying. Exhibit A: Your last post.

Yes, but you're an idiot, I'm not - reference any post you've made so far on socialism/communism.

I'm an idiot? Have we digressed this far? Show some class. Don't rag on my views just because yours are different.
You know what, ES? You're just the kind of ignorant, offensive person that gives the left a bad name. You insist on insulting people just because they don't see things the way that you see them. People with your innapropriate behavior and lack of class hurt the causes of the left more than anyone on the right ever could. A Bush of a Cheney would love to debate with you, simply because you'd make them look like the upright, moral people that they pretend to be. People like you are the reason that leftist politicians in the US who have logical, attainable progressive views can never get elected, because they get grouped in with you and called "pinko" or "commie bastard," and the behavior you exhibit is just what makes those names stick.

Wrong. The attitudes I have are the ones that keep the left clear of people like you.

OK, if neither of you cannot add something contructive to this particular topic "smoking" maybe you should stop name-calling each other.
Just a thought.

Yeah, that sounds good. I'm after all the moderator of these boards and I'll have to lock it if this continues - these boards are not here for name-calling.

You cannot ban smoking!!! You cannot!
My lungs would jump out of my chest and attack, I tell you. Seriously though, why would anyone ban me from doing something detrimental to myself. Smoking is already taboo enough as it is, I can only smoke in my car, outside, and in restaurants/bars. Its not like I'm walking around the grocery store puffing the stuff in your faces; I'm in my designated little spots doing to myself whatever I want. As is my right. THOMAS PAINE WANTED ME TO SMOKE, I tell you.

Ban smoking in places like schools, hospitals, city hall, etc. - Fine.
However, I have a problem when they tell restaurants and bars that they can't allow smokers. Demand that there are non-smoking areas, that's fine, but the government has no right to say what a manager can or can not allow in his own establishment, if it is within the normal borders of the law (IE; A manager can't allow people to do coke, just because it's his establishment.
But as long as the act of smoking is itself legal, the government has no right whatsoever to tell private persons what they may or may not allow on their property. And banning smoking alltogther is as stupid as it is impossible.
The is pre-revolution politics on my part, btw.
