While here in The Proletariat Coalition elections for the Delegate are fast approaching, in The New Meritocracy those elections are already happening. As we speak Senator Eli and Senator Cortath are vying for votes to become the new Consul. For those of you unaware of their power structure, the Consul enforces the laws of the Meritocracy and is the embodiment of the Meritocratic Senate. The Consul also has the power of appoiting a cabinet to assist in their rule.
These elections are particularly important to the Meritocracy in shaping its future policies. After criticisms over hesitation during The North Pacific crisis and a fading of importance, both Senators look to restore the prominence of The New Meritocracy. Following the latest developments with the ADN, the Meritocracy has been discredited and insulted by many and Senator Cortath has expressed a wish to rebuild the Meritocracy and regain it’s former prestige and respect. ADN officials have expressed “disgust” over the Meritocracy and are still insulting several of the Senators in the Council Lobby behind their backs, including infantile remarks such as “Asshatculpus ”, according to an ADN member and a Meritocratic Senator. Some have told us the ADN members consider this acceptable as the “Insults won’t leave the Forums”. The reasoning behind this statement is questionned by quite a few. Below are quotes from each of the Senator’s speeches.
Senator Cortath, Quaestor and also known as Comrade Delegate Blackbird declared :
The Meritocracy has always been known for it's official Neutrality, though it has led to internal dispute and conflicts that eventually led to the North Pacific situation crisis. However, the Quaestor came up with a new definition of neutrality and said
The word on everyone's lips is "neutrality". But what is neutrality? Is neutrality when one is given two choices, you must choose neither? Go down the middle road? To paraphrase Yogi, when you come to a fork in the road, do you take it (that's a joke, for those of you not familiar with the famous Yankees catcher)? I do not believe neutrality is always forcing yourself to take a middle road, or to not take a road at all. That's not neutrality in my eyes. Neutrality is keeping your options open, so that you have as many roads open as possible. Granted, sometimes we will go down that middle road, or go down no road at all, but the Meritocracy, in order to keep those roads open, in order for our light to always be a welcoming beacon, must take positions on those issues that are right and just. As the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., said, "The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict. " I believe that the crisis in The North Pacific was a great low point in the history of the Meritocracy. Regardless of one's position, hestitating for even a moment to fulfill one's mandatory treaty obligations, is frankly, a shame. And why did we hestitate? Neutrality.
Some senators reacted favourably while others replied with comments similar as the following one, made by Senator Siosia
Senator Eli, Board administrator at the Meritocracy, did in his turn address the Senate and the world with the following words:
Within this election we see two candidates both seeking to expand the foreign role to the Meritocracy. Additionally both candidates favor expansion of the Meritocracy Intellegeince Agency. This tight race will clearly be decided on what both candidates bring up in the issue of neutrality. It comes down to a vote between a redefining of neutrality or the abandonment of it. Will the Meritocracy choose a candidate who seeks to expand its role in the world, acting in just circumstances, a neutral actor with many options? Or will they choose the senator who fill focus on foreign policy and seeks to agressivly expand the role of the Meriotcracy through public relations, recruiting, and diplomacy. Only time will tell.
In peace and solidarity,

Senator Cortath, Quaestor and also known as Comrade Delegate Blackbird declared :
I see the Meritocracy charting troubled waters, my friends. For a long time, longer far than I have been a Senator, the Meritocracy has been a beacon, a lighthouse in a storm-swept sea, drawing some fo the greatest, the oldest, the bravest, and, well, the most meritorious people from the four corners of the earth. But now I worry, the Meritocracy's beam of light no longer beckons to some parts of the world, and our brilliant white light turns to black. The Meritocracy, once deeply respected and admired the world over, no longer is so
The Meritocracy has always been known for it's official Neutrality, though it has led to internal dispute and conflicts that eventually led to the North Pacific situation crisis. However, the Quaestor came up with a new definition of neutrality and said

Some senators reacted favourably while others replied with comments similar as the following one, made by Senator Siosia
While this is admirable in its own right, this is not neutrality. This is acting with a rational and reasonable mindset. The fundamental meaning of neutrality is abstaining from a side.
Senator Eli, Board administrator at the Meritocracy, did in his turn address the Senate and the world with the following words:
Should it be the will of the Senate I will serve as Consul for the upcoming term. This will be my second campaign for this post and I will vigorously pursue the honor of service this time…
I think we need to exploit the twin concepts of the New and Opinion Agency and the Public Relations Department to more aggressively tell our ‘story’ to the NS world. As we do that we’ll have to be vigilant in our vetting process for prospective new members, as we will attract both the Meritocratic types and the other…
In addition to this if the Senate desires to pursue a policy of ‘neutrality’ it risks being cut off from the NS world without a vigorous diplomatic program. Our Ambassadors do a good job of spreading the story of The Meritocracy throughout this virtual world, this must continue with vigor if we are to replenish our ranks and maintain/extend the dynamism of our group…
For Praetor I will select Sir Hippo of Hipposhire and for Censor I would appoint Puppet States. My main focus however is going to be foreign policy and public relations. I think it is vital that we attract members to our regions, Senators to our halls, and dynamism to our organization. It will make us all better.
I would like to thank the Senate for their confidence in my as expressed in my nomination and ask each of you for your vote.
