Comrades of the Coalition --
The hardest task for any region is the peaceful trade off of power between one hand and the next. Marx himself described the dictatorship of the proletariat dissolving into the hands of the workers as they come into consciousness and are able to rule themselves and society for their benefit. Our own region is in the midst of such a transfer, and already we see great changes on the horizon.
First of all, we feel we must congratulate Delegate Blackbird on his successful run for reelection. In a hard-fought election with high numbers, he managed to pull ahead in the final days of the race to win by five votes. The final tally was 20 for Blackbird, 15 to Star City, and 2 to the underdog The Hypercube. We here at the VOTP would like to congratulate all the candidates in their race for their much appreciated contributions. Minister Star City brought much needed debate to such an election and some potent ideas on how to revitalize our region, while The Hypercube showed that all citizens no matter how new they are to our region are significant voices that should not be ignored.
Below we have brought you the public and interview with our continuing delegate on his thoughts on the election, future plans, and state of the Proletariat union.
Earthfirst: What are your immediate plans for the TPC, specifically concerning defense issues and fragmentation of unity on the forums?
Blackbird: TPC remains defended through our high endorsement count and commitment to defender principles, through our participation in the Red Liberty Alliance and the Alliance Defense Network.
I don't believe we've had a fragmentation of unity, so much as the same old intellectual discourse that has always taken place at TPC, just along a different avenue. We've always been a place of debate (how well I recall an abortion thread not too long ago), so these issues are not new. We must always remember that our leftist ideals that brought us together in this region in the first place far outweigh any minor differences we think we might have.
EF: and do you have any specific long term goals for our region?
BB: Long-term? I would like to see the region grow, in both its reputation as a beacon of democracy and leftist ideals, but also in size. I would like to see talk of a Justice Ministry come to fruition. I would like to see more widespread voting. Perhaps most importantly, I would like to see more activity among nations already in TPC. I wish to see TPC remain committed to defender ideals and the defense of our comrades, through our RLA and ADN membership.
EF: to go along with that, what are you thoughts on the possibility of a Senate to increase participation?
BB: I eagerly look forward to a Senate, although I personally counsel against any sort of representative Senate, and would rather see all Voting Comrades in the Senate, rather than the VCs electing a Senator, as I have seen in some informal proposals.
EF: Do you have any closing thoughts to give to Star City or Hypercube?
BB: I congratulate Star City for his immense contributions to the region, having been Foreign Minister for a year and a half. I salute him for his dedication to The Proletariat Coalition and congratulate him on a well-run and close campaign. I welcome Comrade Hypercube and hope to learn more of him so that next time, I can feel more confident in potentially placing my vote for him. Although he was new, he too seemed to quickly grasp the issues and had a well-run campaign.
Secondly the VOTP announces the start of the next round: The Ministerial elections. All three ministries, Defense, Interior, and Foreign affairs are up for election. These will be held, the 21th of September, if all goes as planned. In the Ministry of Defense, incumbent Minister Peaceful Minds is challenged by Comrade Anarchtopia, an experienced Defender and long time TPC member. In the Ministry of the Interior, Comrade Universal Acceptance faces current Minister Red Factions. Finally in a stunning upset Minister Star City has decided not to run again for Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Star City cited his own run for delegacy, and long tenure in office as reasons for his decision to leave the seat open. Now Judge D.S. of Soviet Sexy Girls is running against Comrade Dobbyniania for the open seat. Some much lively, interesting and intelligent debates are of course planned and these have already started. Check out the Boards for more information.
The VOTP will continue coverage of the debates, and will report on the positions of all the candidates. We seek to remain impartial in our views and we will of course encourage all voting comrades to vote, as it is the vote itself which is the strongest force of change for the worker!
