How good is the public transport in france DS, for all our moaning (UKers) we have quite a good one, we should probably be more greatful. I agree that a reasonable public transportation system should be nothing less than standard for a devolped state.
Public transportation should be free to the tax paying worker, much like power, water, health, defense, telecommunications should be....well everything should be nationalised but well thats going off the point.

Nationalised is the wrong word. It should be socialised. If food doesn't cost anything, nothing else would either.

Well, it depends of the area of course but just to talk about Ile de France, it is pretty good. I don't know British system so don't ask me to compare... But we have an extensive public railway that allow you to reach a great number of destination. For an example the city of Versailles (where I live) and that is not particularly big have five rail-stations ! The only problem with the railway (also valid on country scale) is that it is too much Paris-centered. Public bus system in all the suburbs and in Paris is very good and covers the area well enough. In Paris and close suburbs, metro is wonderful, going just everywhere it's possible to go. Just take a look to the following map: www.ratp.info/picts/plans/gif/reseaux/metro.gif

LOL.
Hey, it's not like I'm not totally agreeing with you about the shitness of the political parties on public transport all across the UK - and we've talked about the state of the Isle of Wight before.
I'm just saying that the use of bicycles in a majorly increased way is not impractical even now.

I believe we like the IoW because its totally different to land locked birmingham, the place is greener and near the sea (big plus as I like all that navy stuff, also you get the tall ships and regattas which are a novelty for us brummies ;D). As said there is much opertunity for fishing, my dad is quite fanantic about that and the island is really good for walking, we are one of those families that likes to wander aimlessly with an O/S map over others land LOL. I guess its just nice to be away from the industrialised center of england, where the roads are less than 4 lanes wide and there are more olf fashioned pubs serving goof food than bars selling crap food. LOL ok il pour a bucket of sewer crud over the local UKIP guy and shout kilroys a crack addict over and over again if you start a campaign to get a certain farm overs evil dogs removed who gave us a nasty fright as we followed a footpath over his land LOL

I hear you about the taxis man. It cost me £20 to get home once. I would've walked if I wasn't so scared of the area I live in.
